Can 2018 be a happy new year? (Philippians 3:12-14 NIV)

As you look toward 2018, do you have a feeling of enthusiasm or excitement about what God can do? Or are you filled with dread, worried that 2018 might be worse than last year? Our attitude and our reactions to what happens in our lives will determine if we live this year in victory or defeat. The Apostle Paul never let the circumstances he faced get him down. With God, he was determined to live a life that would bring victory to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. So, can 2018 be a blessed and happy new year? It can be if we will do some simple things that Paul was doing.

Like Paul, we should recognize the value of time. The future is uncertain and all we really have is right now. Can 2018 can be a blessed happy year? Yes, if we understand the value of time and make the most of our opportunities.

Like Paul, we can “turn the page.” The past can cripple us and hold us in bondage. Paul said, “forgetting what is behind” (verse 13). Paul had a very shady past – he persecuted Christians! He chose to forget what was behind and he became a man greatly used by God. God’s not concerned about your past. He’s concerned about your future. Forget the past and look ahead.

Like Paul, we can establish Godly priorities. Paul said, “one thing I do” (verse 13). His top priority was to press on toward the goal. Put the BIG stuff in your schedule first (prayer, reading His word, sharing your story) or you will never make time for them. Seek first the Kingdom of God.
