A Model of Motherhood (1 Samuel 1-2)
In the first book of Samuel, we are introduced to a lady named Hannah. As we learn about Hannah in the first two chapters, we will see a model of motherhood and some defining traits of women of faith.
Women of faith….
- exhibit real problems (1 Samuel 1:1-8 NIV),
- express vibrant prayers (1 Samuel 1:9-18 NIV),
- experience God’s provision (1 Samuel 1:19-20 NIV),
- excel at keeping their promises (1 Samuel 1:2-28 NIV), and
- explode with praise (1 Samuel 2:1-11 NIV).
Hannah was a good example of a woman of faith. She endured silent years of suffering. She goes to the place of worship time and time again. She faithfully worships and pours out her heart in tears. When God answers her prayers, she explodes with praise.
Women, you are a great worth in God’s sight whether or not you have a child. Lift your head and realize that God loves you for who you are, not for what you can do. He knows your sorrow and your pain and will meet you where you are. Moms, make it your mission to give your children to the Lord for a lifetime of service. I can’t think of a greater purpose nor a higher honor than to help children be ready to surrender their life to the Lord.
One of the lessons we can learn from Hannah is that we each, men and women, need a growing relationship with God. If you want your children to learn and become a passionate follower of Jesus, they need to see it in you. Do you have a relationship with God?
