Message: Overcoming the Ordinary

The temptation that every church, every individual should be on guard against is the attitude of complacency. The attitude that says, “good enough is good enough.” The struggle with complacency is not new. It’s been a struggle with churches and individuals all they way back to the New Testament church. Today we will hear what Jesus told a church to help break them out of their complacent mindset. His Word also applies to our church, marriages, individuals – to each one of us.

Revelations 3:15 says, “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!” Why would Jesus say that? Because a heart in the middle (a complacent heart) is the hardest to reach. Has this attitude infiltrated your heart, your life, or perhaps even your church? Are you lukewarm? The good news is that Jesus wants us to get out of that place of complacency, overcome the ordinary, and be on fire for our Savior!

How can we overcome the sin of complacency?

  1. Reconsider what really matters most in life. What really matters is a personal relationship with Jesus.
  2. Recommit your life to the Lordship of Jesus.
  3. Reconnect with Jesus, everyday of your life.

Jesus is knocking at the door (Revelation 3:20). He wants you to be victorious (Revelation 3:21).  I pray you answer the door!

“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:15-16 NIV
