Storm Warning: Just the Facts – Matthew 7:24-27

Audio of Sermon

This is our second week talking about the storms of life. Last week, we talked about being “Storm Ready.” My desire is for each of us to have a life that is prepared to endure the bad weather that will come our way.  Today, we are going to discover the facts of the storm. The Lord is trying to give us a storm warning. Storms are a part of life, but God wants to help us.

Here are the facts:

  1. Fact 1 – Storms of life are certain.  Sometimes we think the storm happens because we did something wrong, that it’s punishment. That is possible. However, John 16:33 tells us there will be trials and tribulations in this world. Everyone will face difficulties. We all go through storms. Just because we are in a storm, doesn’t mean God has abandoned us. In the parable about the wise and foolish builders in Matthew 7, the wise man went through the same storm as the foolish man. The rain falls on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45). With Jesus, we can withstand any storm and come out the other side stronger!
  2. Fact 2 – Storms of life are not invincible. (Matthew 7:24) When we build on the rock, the storm doesn’t have the same destructive power. Storms may be uncomfortable, but not destructive.
  3. Fact 3 – Storms of life do not have to be permanent. The prodigal son is a great example that the storm doesn’t have to be permanent.

Storms are a part of life, but God wants to help us.

If you have built your life on the sand, it’s not too late. God can restore – but He can’t unless you let Him. It’s a choice you get to make today. Will you build your life on the Rock, Jesus Christ?
