Mother’s Day Service: Making An Impact

It’s not easy being a mom. Mothers do so much. A mom’s job includes taxi driver, chef, doctor, judge (especially if you have two or more children), and lawyer just to name a few. The second Sunday of May has been established to honor mothers, so on this day we say, ‘Happy Mother’s Day.’ Today, Mother’s Day 2017, we will focus specifically on mothers. I want to introduce you to some women in scripture, a young women named Eunice and her mother, Lois.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. – Deuteronomy 6:5-7 NIV

Like Eunice, the mother of Timothy, and Lois, the grandmother of Timothy, God wants to use you to instill within your children a respect for the scriptures, an authentic faith, and a desire to minister. As a mom and as a grandmother, you can have a serious spiritual impact on your children!

Do your best to be the very best version of you. All of us has been blessed, right? God has given us different talents and skills sets. I can’t be like you and you can’t be like me; but we can all be our very best. In order for us to be the best Christians we can be, it would be good for us to learn from the Christians we read about in 1 Thessalonians. We thank God for their example. We can learn a lot from them. We can be great individuals, and as a church, we can be great for our King.

Do Your Best To Be Your Best.

1. We are chosen to SERVE. – 1 Thessalonians 1:3

To be our very best, we have to recognize the high honor to serve the King. Ephesians 2:10 tells us we are chosen for good works. There is tremendous need to carry out the work of God. The harvest is plentiful and the workers are few. People are dying every day and going to a Christ-less environment for eternity. We have a mission to carry out!

2. We are chosen to MODEL.1 Thessalonians 1:7,9

People are judging Jesus by us, His believers every day. We are on the runway of life modeling Jesus – good or bad. We are told in Matthew 5:16 to ‘let your light shine before others.’

3. We are chosen to SHARE. 1 Thessalonians 1:8

We have the great privilege to share and proclaim the truth of Jesus Christ, the Good News of the Gospel.

7And so you became a model… 8The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere.” 1 Thessalonians 1:7-8
