Message: Freedom! (Galatians 5)

Memorial Day is for remembering, rejoicing, and ringing out. On Memorial Day, we remember the ones who sacrificed. We rejoice because they didn’t die for nothing. We rejoice for our freedom! Because of them, we have the freedom to preach about God, to assemble as Christians, and to worship. We also remember the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf and His triumphant resurrection (1 Corinthians 11:23-26 NIV). The only way to experience genuine freedom is through Jesus Christ. As Christians, we are to be the light of the world and the salt of the Earth (Matthew 5:13-16 NIV), and we have a message to ring out!

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1 NIV

On Memorial Day, we remember the ones and THE ONE who sacrificed for our freedom. Have you found freedom in the Lord Jesus Christ?

Road Rules: Surrendering Our Security Blanket (The Rich Young Ruler – Mark 10:17-31)

This is the second sermon in the “Road Rules” series in which we will cover four different events, four different conversations by Jesus. You could call these life lessons or rules for the road that we are all traveling upon. These apply to every one of us no matter how many miles of road you have covered. Today, we will focus on the story about the Rich Young Ruler and build on Road Rule #1 from the first sermon, Road Rules: The Gift.

A few observations to note from Mark 10:17-31:Road Rules: The Gift (Mark 10:13-16)

  • Emotion is not enough (verse 17)
  • Jesus can’t be fooled (verse 18)
  • Love speaks what is necessary (verse 21)
  • Attachment to money can ruin your life (verses 23-25)

What hinders you from following passionately after Road Rules: Surrendering Our Security Blanket (Mark 10:17-31)Jesus? What is your security blanket? For this young ruler, it was his riches that stood in the way. The terms of salvation are not negotiable. You can’t save yourself, but all you need to do is surrender. Here’s the good news and Road Rule #2: All things are possible with God. All means all! Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me.” Don’t let that ‘one thing’ impede you from following Jesus.

Watch the video below or listen to the MP3 audio of the full sermon and be blessed.
