Message: Pledging Our Allegiance

On July Fourth, we are reminded that our patriots made a bold declaration, paid a high price, and reaped a great reward – freedom.  In scripture we are taught to fight the good fight and finish the race, but not everyone is committed or concerned.  There’s a high price to pay for following after Jesus. Like our patriots, followers of Jesus will reap a great reward – freedom from the bondage of sin.

Think about that day you made a bold declaration and claimed Jesus as your Savior and Lord. Have you drifted? God is inviting you to repent and renew your commitment. Maybe you have never made that bold declaration. Do you know the gift of God is eternal life (John 3;16)? The good news is Jesus will save you, forgive you, and give you a new life! Make a bold declaration and pledge your allegiance to Jesus.

“… Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8: 31-32 (NIV)

Message: Freedom! (Galatians 5)

Memorial Day is for remembering, rejoicing, and ringing out. On Memorial Day, we remember the ones who sacrificed. We rejoice because they didn’t die for nothing. We rejoice for our freedom! Because of them, we have the freedom to preach about God, to assemble as Christians, and to worship. We also remember the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf and His triumphant resurrection (1 Corinthians 11:23-26 NIV). The only way to experience genuine freedom is through Jesus Christ. As Christians, we are to be the light of the world and the salt of the Earth (Matthew 5:13-16 NIV), and we have a message to ring out!

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1 NIV

On Memorial Day, we remember the ones and THE ONE who sacrificed for our freedom. Have you found freedom in the Lord Jesus Christ?

Blessings,

You Can Be Wise Too (Matthew 2:1-12)

Join Burgin Baptist Church and worship the Risen Lord with us! Today, Irma Woodrow shared her testimony filled with faith and missions. The Burgin Baptist choir lifted their voices in praise with singing the songs, “Worthy of My Lord,” “More Precious Than Silver,” and “O Come All Ye Faithful.” This Christmas season, Pastor Carl McCray shared from Matthew 2:1-12 NIV about the magi, the wise men, who followed a star to search for Jesus the Messiah.

The wise men were ready to follow God where ever He directed them. They searched for the Messiah, found HIm, and worshiped Him (Matthew 2:1-12). Like the wise men, you can be wise too.

  • The wise men were willing to step out in faith and follow.
  • The wise men were wiser than men of the world.
  • The wise men worshiped and gave gifts to Jesus.
  • The wise men went home a different way.

What or who are you worshiping today? What garners your time, your resources? That is probably what you are worshiping. You will be unfulfilled without Jesus. When you encounter Jesus and truly worship Him, you can’t go home the same way. You won’t be the same, and your life won’t be the same. Find satisfaction with Jesus today. May we all be wise like the wise men!

“After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.” Matthew 2:9-12
